Social Securitas is an application, which was made for the uncertain times we are currently living in. The app enables users to video record for situations where they are in danger. Once the record icon is hit on the app, the screen shrinks and the phone uses the camera to record along with audio. You can record using the front-facing and back-facing cameras. Once the recording is stopped, the video is automatically uploaded to the Social Securitas servers without an option to delete. For example, if there was a crime taking place and the criminal was recorded while the crime was taking place, they could not take possession of your phone to erase the video. When the video is uploaded, your pre-programmed emergency contacts are sent a link to the video with a description of your general location. This will enable your friends and family to know what is happening. There is also an SOS feature which can be sent without a video being recorded. This will notify the user’s emergency contacts that they are in trouble.

The app is meant to be used in the following situations, which is not exclusive:

- When you are pulled over or come into contact with a police officer, you can use the app to tape your interaction. This can be used to protect yourself so that the interaction is saved in case the footage from the officer’s vehicle is “conveniently” lost.

- When you see a criminal act taking place, you can catch the act taking place and store the video in a safe place. This will help to protect yourself and other people.

- Use on your children’s phones for taping a potential kidnapper and also in school for bullying or mistreatment by school faculty

- Workplace discrimination if you are harassed by your fellow co-workers or your boss

- People who are engaged in suspicious activity which may be engaged in criminal or terrorist acts

- Being engaged in political activity such as protests or a rally

- Elders in nursing homes or senior care facilities that may be facing abuse from the staff.

- People involved in accidents (car, sports, hiking, etc.)
